We girls encounter different obstacles in the workforce every single day. For decades it has been a man's world, but not anymore- not to me at least. I come from a family of incredibly strong women- my grandmother, a single mother who raised my mother all by herself, my mother who is a cancer survivor, my aunts who run a 80 year old family business like it isn't even hard. To sum up, I come from a family of #girlbosses and if it wasn't for them, I can guarantee, I wouldn't be the person I am today or want to be tomorrow.
Two years ago I got my hands on the book #GirlBoss by Sophia Amoruso. I read it from beginning to end in no time and I was forever inspired by her story and forever in love with Nasty Gal- her 100 million plus online retailer that she started from 0. What inspired me the most was not how she never gave up, or how she got up from every single bad thing that happened to her, or how she remained faithful to her vision. No... I was most inspired by how invincible as a woman she was. Sophia Amoruso and her story is truly my modern day super hero. For those of you who haven't read the book (or watched the TV series on Netflix), I strongly recommend you do if you need some motivation in whatever you are doing. If you are miserable in your job, if you are stuck in what you're doing, this is a great read to help you realize- if she did it, you can too. Below are 7 of my favorite quotes from the book and how they have empowered me to be my own kind of #girlboss.

Nosotras como mujeres enfrentamos un sin fin de obstaculos en nuestros trabajos en el dia a dia. Por muchisimos años este mundo se ha considerado un mundo de hombres, pero ya no es asi- no para mi por lo menos. Yo vengo de una familia de mujeres increÃblemente fuertes- mi abuela era una madre soltera y crió completamente sola a mi madre, mi madre es una sobreviviente de cancer, y mis tias manejan un negocio familiar de 80 años como si fuera cosa fácil Para resumir las cosas, yo vengo de una familia de luchadoras y de #girlbosses. Estoy segura que si no fuera por cada una de ellas, yo no seria como soy y no quisiera las cosas que quiero para mi en el futuro.
Hace dos años me compré el libro #GirlBoss by Sophia Amoruso. No recuerdo que tan rapido lo lei, pero les aseguro que fuà flash. Este libro me inspiró muchisimo, me inspiró su historia y me enamoré de Nasty Gal- su venta de ropa online, una de las mas rentables de la actualidad con valor de mas de 100 millones de dolares. Lo que más me inspiro de ella y su historia no fué el hecho que ella nunca se rindió o las trabas que ella tuvo que atravesar en su camino, o como se mantuvo fiel a su vision. No... lo que mas me impresionó fué lo invencible como mujer que ella fué a pesar de todo. Sophia Amoruso es una super heroe moderna- lo que todas las mujeres queremos ser cuando se trata de cumplir nuestros sueños. Personally I don't believe in luck- I believe in all of this. If you read #GirlBoss you will realize, she never got lucky, she worked her butt off to get what she has now. I strongly believe in hard work as the fundamental stone to success.

Life is about making good decisions, making bad decisions and experimenting things for yourself. It is a learning experience all the way and it makes you stronger with every choice you make. I know I have started small, continue to be small, but I'm working on getting where I want to be- one day at a time.

He aprendido que la vida es sobre tomar buenas decisiones, malas decisiones, pero probar las cosas por si solos. No te la pueden contar, tienes que vivirla para apreciarla y entenderla.

Just like Sophia Amoruso says in this quote- there is always something good that comes from the bad. The trick is not dwelling over what has gone wrong, it's about being open to the great opportunity that might come.

Tal cual lo dijo Sophia Amoruso arriba- siempre hay algo bueno que sale de lo malo. El truco es no quedarse en ese lugar oscuro y siempre estar abiertos a la gran oportunidad que puede venir luego del fracaso.

I know a lot of people that get stuck in dreaming about success, praying for it and even waiting for it. When things don't go as they had hoped for, they say- "I guess it just wasn't for me". Life doesn't work like that and certainly not success. Success is a accumulation of a lot of factors, hope included, but it is not a strategy. A strategy is setting up daily goals, monthly goals, 1 year goals, 5 year goals, 'someday goals' and reevaluating them all the time.

Conozco mucha gente que se quedan trancados en soñar, rezar y esperar... cuando las cosas no suceden para ellos dicen- "es que seguro no era para mi". La vida no funciona asi y definitivamente no el éxito. El éxito es el resultado de muchos factores, la esperanza esta ahi adentro, pero no es una estrategia. Una estrategia es tener una meta de un dia, de una semana, de un mes, de un año, cinco años y revaluar esas metas todo el tiempo.

I really respect people who are nice to everyone with no exceptions- those who are kind to big-shot CEOS and those who are kind to people who have nothing. Those who are genuinely nice people deserve the world, in my opinion.

Yo respeto mucho a las personas que son amables con todo el mundo sin excepción- los que son amables con importantes personas como gerentes millonarios pero también son amables con gente que no tiene absolutamente nada. Esa gente que es genuinamente buena, se merece el mundo para mi.

I talked about this in one of recent posts "5 Biggest Blogging Lessons I've Learned" and the importance of reading and getting educated. Although I got a traditional education, I don't necessarily believe that you need to go to college to be someone. However, just like Sophia Amoruso says on her quote, it is important to stay inspired and the easiest way to do that is to hit the books. Choose random ones- some you're interested in and try others you may not be at first. The same comes with music, art, and other interests- mix it up.

Justo hablé sobre algo similar en uno de mis recientes posts "Las 5 Lecciones Mas Importantes Que Aprendi de Blogging"- sobre la importancia de leer y educarse. Esto no significa que tengas que ir a la universidad para ser alguien, pero si es importante que te eduques leyendo. Tal como lo dice Sophia en su libro, haciendo esto lograras inspirarte de las cosas mas increÃbles que de otra forma no lo harÃas. Lo mismo aplica con arte, música y otros intereses- mantenlos variados para asi recibir la máxima inspiracion de cosas que jamas te hubieras imaginado!

We all gather inspiration from somewhere, but it truly is about making it your own. Competition is certainly a great thing, but imitation isn't. It is so important to strive to be a better person, a better entrepreneur, and know that your biggest competition is yourself. Be confident in what you've got, the qualities you possess and work hard to be better each day.

Todos absorbemos inspiración de diferentes lugares, pero el éxito es en solo inspirarse y luego hacer lo de uno. La competencia es algo increÃble porque te ayuda a crecer, pero la imitación hace lo contrario. Es importante saber que nuestra más grande competencia es uno mismo por eso uno debe tener la confianza en quien uno es, en las cualidades que uno tiene y querer trabajar duro para ser una mejor persona todos los dÃas.
